Who uses home care services?
People of all ages and functional abilities
use home care services for numerous reasons.
For some, home care services are just a
little something extra, a luxury that enables them to delegate
physically challenging tasks such as cleaning the oven or bathtub.
While for others, home care services provide the support they
require to remain in their home. Support services can also be purchased to
supplement care for clients during hospitalization or placement in a
long term care facility.
Who delivers the services?
For your protection, CAI only places trained,
insured and bonded professionals in your home. All home care personal
assistants (companions, homemakers, nurse aides, physician
assistants, nurses, social workers) are required to attend ongoing
training to maintain their skills and required licenses. The care
management team provides ongoing supervision of all open cases and
is available 24 hours a day to assist with emergencies.
How often can I receive home care services?
Home care services are available 24
hours-a-day 7 days-per-week. Frequency of your scheduled service
will take into consideration your personal needs and financial
means.
Is home care covered by insurance?
Some long term care, accident or auto
insurance policies do reimburse for the home care services CAI
provides. Generally, health insurance
reimburses only skilled home health care services. The Service Coordinator
can review insurance
questions and provide information that can help you obtain answers
from your insurance company.
What if I am on a fixed income?
CAI offers low minimum required visits and in
many situations can design a care plan to maximize resources. The
Service Coordinator will also help you identify available resources,
such as state funding subsidies, veterans pension benefits, etc.
How can I access home care services?
Services are initiated by calling CAI. First,
the Service Coordinator conducts a pre-assessment. During the
pre-assessment, general information about the clients' needs is
obtained and an overview of available services is provided. The
pre-assessment will help the client/caregiver determine if an
in-home assessment is appropriate.
In-home assessments are conducted face to
face by the Service Coordinator and may include other members of
the managed care team, such as a Registered Nurse or Social Worker.
In certain situations, assessments may also take place out of the
client’s home.
After assessing homemaking, personal care and
health needs, the Service Coordinator will make a list of
recommendations. At this point, the Service Coordinator and the
client/family will begin to structure a service delivery plan. The
service plan will specify what services will be provided, who will
provide the service, frequency of service, and the anticipated cost.
What are Dependent Care services?
Home care clients who purchase Dependent Care
services receive all the benefits of case management plus our guarantee
for schedule coverage and support of ancillary home care services.
This is very critical for a client who cannot be left alone at home.
At no time will a Dependent Care client receive a telephone call
telling them that their worker is not coming.
Often, Dependent Care clients experience
dramatic changes in their health and functional abilities. Ancillary
home care services are available from CAI or referred to one of our
local coordinating agencies. All areas of ancillary support services
will be discussed and agreed upon prior to being put into place.
